Lighthouse reports that it is NOT yet safe for South Oakland Shelter to resume rotations between the churches until at least 8/1/20 and possibly not until the Fall. The Homeless clients are currently being housed in a local motel which is paid for by donations, fundraising & grants. Oakland County has chosen to use the CARES ACT funds for food insecurity. Our SOS friends have been receiving food through that program. Since we will NOT be hosting our guests this summer at our church, we have identified two opportunities to continue our Ministry efforts for the Homeless.
Money donations may be made directly to Lighthouse to offset the costs of the housing & food. Please visit the Lighthouse Hands Up program at https://handup.org/campaigns/coronavirus-sjfc2. An easy to use donation sight has been specifically set up for St. John Fisher Chapel.
We will be providing gift bags for 85 SOS men, women & children. Additionally, 10 HOPE Warming Center guest housed at the same motel will also receive a gift bag. The bags will include snacks, games books, gift cards & inspirational notes, socks & personal hygiene items. A Sign-Up Genius link has been created if you would like to donate items for the gift bags. Please drop off donations marked “SOS bags” to St. John Fisher Chapel by July 15, 2020. All of your donations are appreciated, but during this time of CDC coronavirus guidelines, please limit your drop off items to those you have selected on the Sign-Up Genius. If you have any questions, please call Susan Weber at 248-320-4072 or Ann Chinn at 248-217-8814. Thank you for your continued support for South Oakland Shelter. – Outreach Ministry
