Blessing of Pets It was a most glorious autumn day as SJF chapel members, guests, and their beloved pets processed to the back deck for the annual Blessing of Pets service. This special service hosted by Companion Ministry is held in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi's love for all creatures. Included in the procession this year were dogs of all shapes and sizes, a new puppy and even a Leader Dog in training. There were also several cats, a turtle and a lizard in attendance. Thanks to everyone who gathered to celebrate the gift of our animal companions. Nancy Mason Bordley presided over the prayer service, and blessed our pets. Her reflection on the Scriptures and St. Francis gave us much food for thought. St Francis was very aware of the love of God expressed in all creation. We were certainly all aware of God's love for us as we joined in prayer and fellowship with our beloved pets. Even some of our pets enjoyed getting to know one another, and joined in the prayer and song. Many, many thanks to all of our Companion Ministers who helped to make this a special occasion for everyone. The Blessing of Pets was truly a gift for all who attended. |
