Mission:

From our widely diverse population we recruit, train and schedule Liturgical Ministers who enhance our liturgies by filling their roles as Welcomers, Lectors and Coffee Hosts.

  • As community members are invited to participate in the liturgy, the spiritual life of the community is strengthened.
  • Well-prepared Lectors proclaim the Word of God.
  • Community-building is accomplished through the hospitality of the Coffee Hosts.

 Current Volunteer Assignments

Objectives:

  • Recruit volunteers from the Annual Time and Talent Survey, the interest sign-up sheets distributed at New Member Welcome sessions, and through personal invitation.

  • Use occasional Bulletin Covers to recognize Ministers in their various roles and promote interest in others to join the group.

  • Furnish assignment schedules in a timely manner for various liturgical seasons and special liturgical events.

  • Provide Welcomers, Lectors and Coffee Hosts with instructions and information needed to enable them to effectively and confidently fulfill their responsibilities.

  • Provide scripture readings and tutorial notes to Lectors on a timely basis.

  • Provide the Community a pleasant opportunity to gather and socialize through the graciousness and hospitality of the Coffee Hosts.

  • Make leaders of various ministries, especially our Youth and Young Adult Ministries, aware of this opportunity for their members to participate in the life of the community.

Statement of Resource Needs (Time, Talent, Treasure):

Lectionary Texts, Workbook with Tutorial Notes for Lectors, copier, card stock and plastic name tag inserts, containers for name tags, labels, access to Parish Name and Address files, paper, supplies, envelopes, postage. Assistance from Youth Leaders and Young Adult Leaders in recruiting volunteers from their constituencies for this Ministry.

Ministry with Community Special Emphasis:

We attempt to bring together the diverse segments of our Chapel membership to participate in and enhance the liturgical experience for everyone. Liturgical Ministers, in preparing for, and filling their roles, and recruiting others to participate, emulate Christ’s ministry of service. Their hospitality and gracious acceptance of others will contribute to their own spiritual growth and enhance the spiritual growth of other community members. Our celebrations of the liturgy, enriched by the service of these Ministers will deepen the spirituality of all.

Primary Activities:

Welcomers are members of the community who come early to liturgical events including weekend Masses and encourage others to take part in the celebration that day as Eucharistic ministers, as offertory bearers, and as sacristans. Lectors are also members of the community who read the scripture passages designated for the day; they are assigned ahead of time and receive their reading along with tutorial notes so they can prepare. Our Coffee Hosts make our social gatherings on Sundays, Holy Days and other special events special by giving their time to the community to prepare the coffee, set up the room and serve. We always appreciate new members to this ministry.
