PeaceXPeace Ministry
Liz Loria, Ministry Head, 248-375-1327
We are good, strong and holy.
We are women of spirit.
We are women of peace.
We seek healing and wholeness
for ourselves and the world.
Our ministry is a monthly gathering of 12 – 15 women concerned with promoting peace and non-violence within our local community and extending it throughout the world. We meet typically the third Wednesday of the month September – May at 7:00 pm in the Faith Formation Lounge. Check the bulletin for updates or contact Sue Buratto at 248-373-6457 ext. 3100.
Recent Ministry Activities:
- Peace Book Exchange
- Pennies for Peace Campaign to build Schools in Afghanistan

Peace x Peace Updates and Goal Alignment with Parish Mission
- Current Development: We had our Afghani sponsor sister “graduate” and we sent well wishes to her. We had new members join from the community. We now have a new sister from Iraq. She is 28 and cares for 8 children, so we will be sending her letters and photos to show our support as well as the monthly amount that pays for her schooling.
- Current Challenge: To attract younger members
- Important to know: We have been focusing on understanding our Muslim sisters in different ways; also planning to have a book give away; also to reflect on making peace in little ways by reading “Practicing Peace in Times of War.”
SJF 2011-2016 Five Year Planning Goals and
PeaceXPeace Ministry objective(s) related to each Goal:
St. John Fisher Chapel University Parish builds relationships by:
- Providing a spiritual home for worship and meaningful growth in our Catholic faith:
- Prayer always begins and ends our time together
- Connecting our faith to our everyday life (Servants’ Entrance):
- We make books on peace available to the community;
we discuss books of peace and share ideas for action.
- Building bridges between generations especially with young adults:
- We reach out to our community through bulletin and newsletter submissions.
- Expanding roles in lay leadership:
- By alternating the facilitator role monthly for our group we share leadership responsibility.
- Listening to and supporting people of diverse backgrounds and needs:
- Through our sponsorship of Women for Women we support our third world sister monetarily, emotionally and spiritually
- Supporting ecumenical and interfaith collaboration:
- Through outside speakers, DVD’s, collaboration with Justice & Peace and exploring other resources on Muslim faith, we strive to convey a sense of interfaith sensitivity and ecumenical solidarity.
